Every last child

We will do whatever it takes until every last child has access to health, education and protection.

A new call for genuine equality

On 26 April 2016 we launched our new global campaign, Every Last Child, which aims to highlight and reduce discrimination faced by children here in South Africa and around the world.

The campaign will work to ensure every child enjoys equal opportunities, growing up with access to quality healthcare, education and nutrition – regardless of who they are or where they live.

In short, we are calling for a radical rethink towards equality for children in South Africa and around the world.

Why we do what we do

Children across the globe are being denied the opportunity to learn and survive simply because of who they are or where they live. 400 million children from ethnic and religious groups are discriminated against according to our estimations. 720 million women alive today were married before they were 18 – compared with 156 million men. 1 in 4 refugee children of secondary age are estimated to be in school compared with 3 in 4 children worldwide. There's a 3–4 times greater likelihood that children with disabilities will experience physical and sexual violence and neglect than their peers.

In South Africa, we are campaigning for migrant children and their access to quality healthcare and education. Unaccompanied or separated migrant children are in particular need of child protection and other services, such as health care, education and grants.

Meet Grace

She is a Zimbabwean migrant now living in a shelter in Musina, South Africa, run by Save the Children. She was 11 years old when she made the journey to South Africa with her friends. She was running from her abusive mother who would make her beg on the streets instead of letting her go to school.
